Zelda - unfinished
This was the beginning stage of a portrait that I did of a friend. Unfortunately I handed it off before I could get a final scan. The paper I used, which was a smooth bristol board, would not allow me to get the rich darks that I prefer to get. I've since been using a velum bristol but I still prefer to use Aquabee drawing paper. It seems to have the grain and tooth that I want and allows me the rich darks that I love.

Bogey 1 - Graphite
Charlie 3
The third Charlie Chaplin portrait. This is my favorite after Charlie-1. Again, I used the mechanical pencils with the graphite powder blended with a soft watercolor brush.
After I had fixed it with a workable fixatif I realized that it would have been a stronger piece if I had remembered to blend out the shadow under the bottom lip. WHOOPS! Too late now. But still, one of my favorites.
Charlie 2
My second Charlie Chaplin portrait. Done with graphite pencil and graphite powder. The pencils I use are usually mechanical pencils. Once I lay down the graphite I will blend it in using blending stomps. I work in small circular motions with the pencil and then the same with the stomps. The background was done with a soft watercolor brush and some graphite powder.
